When mammoth bones were found at the site in 1974, a museum and building enclosing the site were established, and today, continues as an internationally renowned indoor active paleontological dig site and accredited museum. Travel back in time as you walk the edges of the sinkhole where mammoths and other species became trapped more than 140,000 years ago. More than 60 mammoths (58 Columbian, 3 Woolly Mammoths (2025)) have been unearthed, as well as over 85 other species of associated Ice Age fauna. Surely, there will be more discoveries as the dig continues.
